Spinach Mania
As we know
green leafy vegetables plays a vital role in our life they provide maximum
amount of Vitamins, Calcium, & iron to our body to keep us fit n fine. As
far as green leafy vegetables go, spinach is definitely among the most popular in
our country as well as around the globe. Who hasn’t enjoyed a rich ironed
spinach soup at some point? Spinach is thought to have originated in ancient Persia. Arab
traders carried spinach into India, and then the plant was introduced into
ancient China, where it was known as "Persian vegetable". Not only spinach has a great green
colour & vibrant flavour. It is also filled with nutrients such as Vitamin
A, Vitamin C, Vitamin B2, Calcium, & plenty of iron; it
also has anti-cancer properties. Do we need any other reason to include spinach
in our regular diet?
Various
varieties of spinach are available in the market. Savoy
spinach has dark green colour with crisp, curly leaves and springy texture;
Semi Savoy is a hybrid variety with slightly crinkled leave similar in texture. Smooth-leaf
spinach, which seems most common in India, has
broad, smooth leaves that are easier to clean than Savoy. This kind of spinach
is often grown for canned and frozen spinach, as well as soups, baby foods, and
processed foods. Baby spinach
has a light sweet taste & is great for use in salads.
Spinach is available in the market in every
season of the year, but we can get the fresh and well balance spinach during
March to May and from September through October. While choosing spinach checks
all the leaves are fresh and not black green in colour. It should be lighter to
dark green in colour that indicates freshness and richness of
spinach.Precautions need to take while cooking also. Do not wash for long time
as well as do not boil for long time, because of that spinach will lose its
colour n all the necessary nutrients and that kind of spinach is not going to
provide any kind of help to our body. Use fresh spinach rather than using
canned spinach.Use more & more spinach in our daily diet that will provide
most of the nutritional values to keep us healthy &
strong like Popeye the Sailor.
